Emmanuel has been a serial entrepreneur and investor in the life sciences since 2016. He began his career as an ambulance medic before becoming co-founder of Moogene, a lipid nanoparticle company that he started with some professors while still a Senior Fellow (Chemistry) at Dartmouth College. The company went public on the Korean stock exchange under the ticker 322970.KS.
After Moogene, Emmanuel joined Sagamore Investments, a China-only private equity platform with over US$300 million in bio-related investments which he oversaw. In 2023, Emmanuel, along with Sagamore’s Managing Director Mr. Rodrigo YANG established Pebble – an early-stage angel fund to support local innovation in Hong Kong. In June 2024, Pebble officially became the “Tiger Jade Pebble Accelerator”, after a financing round whereby Tigermed (HKEX:3347) became Pebble’s largest shareholder. Apart from Tigermed, other key investors include Nan Fung, Morningside, CoCoon Ventures, Tai Hung Fai Enterprises, Mr. Jean Salata, and Uni-Bio Science Group (HKEX:0690). Pebble currently has over 20 companies under its portfolio that all have a Hong Kong nexus in development. Pebble is a strategic partner of Saltagen, acting as an early-stage scout and providing acceleration services to Saltagen’s companies.
Apart from his full-time engagements, Emmanuel holds multiple Board Directorate and Advisory roles including for the Hong Kong Hospital Authority Central Institutional Review Board (Paediatrics), Opharmic, the Hong Kong Life Sciences Society, CUHK Innovation Limited, and HN Group. He also lectures for the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s BEHM and MBA programs. Apart from science and finance, Emmanuel dabbles in the music industry for fun.
